As a community, Red Hook is rich in community-based and arts organizations, and Red Hook Mutual Aid in no way seeks to duplicate efforts or replace any of the resources already present in the neighborhood. RHMA functions primarily as a means of making resources and information more accessible to everyone in the neighborhood by way of a phone line that connects households to the abundant resources available at the community level.

Many local businesses and organizations support Red Hook Mutual Aid through material or financial donations or partnering for community events or campaigns. Organizations can help the community via:
- Donating food or supplies for targeted distribution, i.e. prepared meals for seniors living alone
- Sharing the work of RHMA in your communications
- Donating space for community events or community meals
- Hosting a community fridge that RHMA will maintain
- Donating money on a monthly basis
