Project teams are volunteer-led with support from Red Hook Mutual Aid admin. Any idea for a project can be connected with people power and resources. Project teams collaborate in WhatsApp groups and are a blank slate for community project design with fiscal support from our Collective and organizational support from our lead organizers.

Examples of past and current projects include:

  • The RHMA Newsletter team develops and sends out a weekly newsletter. This has been running since May 2020.
  • The RHMA Free Store team organizes pop-up free stores in community spaces. They are seeking both storage and a permanent location.
  • The RHMA Migrant Support team works with bilingual moderators to share resources and field requests from residents of DHS migrant shelters. Support is available to any asylum seeker in New York City, not just those housed in Red Hook, and support extends beyond any loss of Right to Shelter due to the city’s inhumane 30-day rule.
  • The RHMA Food team and Homebound Delivery team makes sure our community fridge at 63 Seabring St, hosted by our friends at Vivid Kid, is kept clean and stocked, and handles deliveries of prepared meals provided by our friend Frank at F&M Cafe twice a week.
  • The RHMA Sourcing team works to secure financial and material support for RHMA members through direct outreach.
  • The RHMA Buddy System volunteers are partnered with a vulnerable household not just to provide aid and resources, but also to build relationships that transcend the societal divides we are actively resisting in our community. We consider this the most radical distinction we are able to make in our guiding principle of Solidarity, Not Charity. We’re all in this together.

Join us fully on a project team. Work with an activated and engaged group to meet mutual aid goals for every community member of Red Hook.
